3 Design Games Every Designer Should Force Their Parents (And Kids) To Play

24 Sep
September 24, 2012

My parents have no idea how I do what I do. They just…well, they just don’t get it. Bringing it up in conversation usually leads to blank stares and few questions. So I sent them these. Big brain interaction designer Mark MacKay over at Method of Action has put these together as part of his free online design courses for the analytically minded (hey mom, hey dad) to impart on them the basics of working with type and color. First, let’s start with KernType…. Read more →

Free Cartoon Online

Because nothing goes better with weekend mornings than old school cartoons, some polite cartoon fan has posted a huge cache of old Hanna Barbera cartoons online that you can stream for free. Currently it’s a ‘what you see is what you get’ situation, and apparently there’s no way to pick which shows and episodes you want to stream, but you can still get your fix of Huckleberry Hound, Super Friends, Thundercats, and about 30 other classic cartoons (even in full-screen mode.) Happy Saturday!

Check them out over at HBReboot.

A Jacket for Life from Tin Man Films UK on Vimeo.

I love handcrafted stuff and I’ve had a Barbour jacket in one way or another as long as I can remember. If you’ve never owned one you’re really missing out. Desginer Toolbox

Every designer has a toolkit they pull from to help them make it through the day. Here are some (okay 5) of my personal faves that save time, annoyance, and make some tasks so much easier (they’re also a ton of fun to just play around with.) So let’s go -

Even MS Comic Sans Has A Posse

Chanel in MS Comic Sans

The wretched typeface MS Comic Sans was unleashed upon unsuspecting secretaries and MS Word enthusiasts in the mid 90′s and has been showing up everywhere from office break rooms to garage sale signs ever since. Well, as it turns out, even comic sans has a group of defenders that seek to remake the world entirely in comic sans. Great. Personally, I hate the typeface and think the world would be a slightly better place sans comic sans; however, these folks don’t agree. See more of their witty re-imagining of popular logos below the cut.
